What I liked

I enjoyed being able to collaborate with the other interns and meeting people from all around the U.S.

What I wish was different

I wish it had been paid, and I wish that I had more substantive work to do. It was just filing papers or writing articles and some days we had absolutely nothing to do so I didn't even clock in or out. Also, it was remote, and I would've rather done in person work because it didn't really feel collaborative.

Advice

Try to always ask the supervisors if there's any more work for you to do, rather than wait for them to give you work.

Paralegal Intern

What I liked

When I have graduated from Towson, I want to go to law school and become a lawyer. This internship allowed me to gain hands-on experience with the legal field. I had a great supervisor who became somewhat of a mentor. She always made herself available to me for any questions I may have had or assistance I may have needed.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had more in-person interaction with the lawyers. They were unavailable for the most part so I was not able to meet with them and have access to information that pertained to lawyers rather than paralegals.

Advice

This internship experience was a great opportunity for me and a great resume builder. It gave me a taste of what the field I am pursuing would be like in real life. I was able to see what a legal workplace looked like and network with individuals who are working in the field I wish to be in. Overall it was a great chance for me to learn about the law, get legal experience, and learn more about my capability to excel in the legal field.

What I liked

I really liked how much hand on work the interns were able to do when working at the firm.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more mentoring, because a lot of the interns felt very disposable.

Advice

Please try your best to connect with your supervisor, because they are so busy and often times do not make an effort to connect with you.

Legal Intern

What I liked

It was an interesting experience in which I was able to become hands-on with legal immigration services. I was able to draft affidavits, declarations, build a case that would potentially help clients gain U-VISAs, as well as handle important information regarding our clients.

What I wish was different

It was a fast-paced job but the Mil Mujeres offices around the U.S, which were important in gathering data and information about our clients was run with low efficiency, therefore making it hard to put together cases.
