Moody's Inc

Structured Finance Intern

What I liked

I truly appreciated the organization within Moody’s Investors Service. The HR team and managers were stellar; they were always open to discussions, making the environment feel welcoming. I was particularly impressed with the flat business model, which enabled me to interact with the executive leadership directly. This openness in hierarchy allowed for invaluable coffee chats and interactions with personnel at all levels, emphasizing the receptive nature of everyone at Moody's. The frequent discussions about markets, industries, and the different teams within Moody's showcased that the learning opportunities here are boundless. Moreover, the presence of Moody's University was a highlight, offering courses to enhance skills during any downtime continuously.

What I wish was different

While I gained invaluable insights and learned a lot from working on closed or older deals, I do wish that compliance regulations had allowed for interns to engage more directly with current deals. I understand the necessity for these regulations, but being involved with live projects could have offered a more dynamic and real-time understanding of the business.

Advice

My key piece of advice would be to leverage any downtime you have by initiating coffee chats with individuals across various markets. Don't hesitate to approach even the more senior professionals; their willingness to engage and share insights is truly commendable and can offer a rich perspective on the industry.
