Chief of Staff Intern

June - August 2020 • Crystal City, VA

What I liked

My internship with NSIN was everything I could have wanted and more. Even in a remote environment, NSIN gave me the opportunity to explore every avenue of interest while gaining valuable technical and interpersonal skills. They also gave me the chance to make this internship my own. Throughout my nine weeks, I workshopped a problem from start to finish and presented my findings to the organization's leadership. It was one of the most formative professional experiences I have ever had.

What I wish was different

Absolutely nothing. I loved everything about my internship experience.

Advice

Make the most of your experience! Dive in feet first and don't be afraid to ask questions. The NSIN team are some of the most accomplished people I have ever met. They are also some of the nicest. Get to know as many of them as you can. And don't forget to enjoy it.

National Service Portfolio Program Management Intern

May 2020 • Crystal City, VA

What I liked

NSIN provided not only the opportunity to do incredibly meaningful work in the national security industry, but also provided the opportunity to learn from a truly wonderful group of colleagues and older mentors. NSIN's belief in the importance of human capital truly plays out during the internship experience over the course of the summer as one has the chance to make connections with extremely well-versed industry experts.

What I wish was different

Not a thing. The experience has been flawless.

Advice

Make sure you are open to making the most of this experience. Ask for more responsibility. Reach out to more senior employees at NSIN - not only are they fantastic people, but they are more than happy to share their knowledge/experiences.

Summer Analyst

June - July 2019 • Arlington, VA

What I liked

The position exposed me to a wide range of professionals in the national security realm and allowed me to explore a potential career path in cybersecurity law.

What I wish was different

I wish the program had been longer. 8 weeks was a long time but 10-12 weeks would have helped in terms of having more time to research and scope the case.
