Nevada Division of Environmental Protection: Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management

About Nevada Division of Environmental Protection: Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management

Our mission is to preserve and enhance the environment of the State in order to protect public health, sustain healthy ecosystems, and contribute to a vibrant economy.
NDEP works to protect the land from contamination in order to provide Nevadans with a clean and healthy state. Our mining and waste permitting programs minimize impacts to the environment. Where contamination is discovered, our environmental cleanup programs provide the oversight and support services to conduct effective cleanup activities.
The Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management operates permitting and compliance programs to ensure the safe management of solid and hazardous waste. In addition, waste reduction, reuse, and recycling are promoted. Solid Materials Management includes hazardous and solid waste programs as well as the agency's recycling program.

“I really enjoyed getting to learn some of the inner workings of the state. I learned some of the ins and outs of grant programs, got to collaborate with a multitude of people who work in fields completely different than my own, and had the privilege of learning new skills from those with years of experience, while still applying skills I have gained throughout my educational career.”
