NICE inContact

Software Engineering Intern

December 2021 - June 2022 • Sandy, UT

What I liked

This internship added to my confidence as an emerging data science professional and introduced me to what research is like in an industry setting. It was especially interesting to interact a diverse group of innovative people and see how collaboration works across disciplines and the world. I enjoyed working on problems independently and attending presentations where I learned how others approached problems in the domain of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and summarization.

What I wish was different

In the last renewal of my contract at NICE, mistakes were made that caused financial distress (I was paid a month late, which had a significant financial impact). Another result of this mistake was I did not have access to data, which made staying involved and engaged very difficult. As a result, I terminated the contract had to take work elsewhere. I wish there was a clear way to solve the problem from the beginning, because I truly enjoyed my internship at NICE.

Advice

If you are working on a project solo, set up time to meet with other people in your team for brainstorming and feedback! This was the most fun and engaging part of my experience with NICE InContact, and it's where I learned the most too!
