Athlete

May - October 2019 • Edinburgh, IN

What I liked

I liked the family feeling of the employees. I made some friends and had a lot of fun working in an environment that reflected my own personality and life.

What I wish was different

I would only change the fact that it was a 45 minute drive from home so I had to stay with friends who lived closer a lot and didn’t get to go home a lot.

Advice

Try to find a place to work that suits your interests and where you will be comfortable doing the work you are doing, but also don’t hesitate to get a little outside of your comfort zone. Nike was the perfect combination for that because it had the athletic aspects that I wanted but I also had to do a lot of different customer service that I hadn’t done before so I learned a lot from that.

What I liked

As an Intern at Nike, you are given real work within your team that has an ability to impact the trajectory of future processes within your division. The culture at Nike is unlike any other. Over the summer, Interns were encouraged to participate in intramurals, were taken on multiple company trips, participated in speaker series events, cross-functional team building, sporting events, access to state of the art gyms, employee discounts, as well as personal and professional development.

Software Engineer Intern

May - August 2018 • Portland, OR

What I liked

The Nike culture is second to none. There are endless opportunities to have incredible days - especially if you're at all interested in sport. The tech space at Nike is an up and coming part of the business and although it's not as prominent as major software companies, the dedication towards tech is evident and I don't doubt Nike will be revered as a tech company very soon. Not to mention that the state of Oregon is incredibly beautiful and welcoming. All in all, you'll have a world-class experience and be able to learn about all parts of the business - not just the code you write. Very cutting edge work is being done all the time. The people are some of the most amazing people I've met in my life and from what I've heard about major tech companies from my friends, some of their most fun days at their internships sound like a regular day during the Nike internship. I'm totally serious! Also, the campus is stunningly beautiful and there is an aura of welcoming for diversity. Nike is very progressive and exciting for being so forward thinking as an influencer in today's day in age.

What I wish was different

I wish the pay was a slight bit more competitive but the benefits and discounts make up for that a whole lot.

Advice

Step outside your function! Nike is a brand that excites anyone - no matter what your field of work is. If you have a question about athletes, marketing, design, ~company secrets~, or history of sport, someone is there to chat your ear off. Make it a point to be friendly - it's very easy to make friends if you want to! Don't spend all your money at the exclusive employee stores like I did..

Advanced Analytics and Machine Learning Intern

May - August 2018 • Beaverton, OR

What I liked

Working at Nike this summer was an amazing opportunity. I loved being in a collaborative and open environment. I worked on a project along with one of the engineers on the AAML team, so I felt open to contributing my ideas and asking questions when I needed guidance or support. I honestly was able to grow so much from this experience.

What I wish was different

Since the AAML team is a new team, it took a couple weeks to get the projects and platforms ready. Therefore, I wish we would've had more time to work on our projects after getting this all figured out.

Advice

Follow your passion. I have a passion for sports data analytics and applied for internships at several companies related to this. Don't be scared to apply to the big companies because you never know what could happen.
