Mechanical Engineering Intern

January - July 2020 • Greensboro, GA

What I liked

Novelis gave me a lot of freedom in my projects and allowed me to design them how I wanted with little oversight until the design was finished. Although this made it more challenging, it also gave me a much more valuable work experience.

What I wish was different

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, I was forced to work from home from March 13th until July 20th, which took away a lot of in-person relationship-building and other experiences I could only gain from being at the plant.

Advice

Do not expect your hand to be held, but definitely ask for help when you need it.

Accounting Intern

May - August 2020 • Buckhead, GA

What I liked

Worked Remote

What I wish was different

Too time consuming for no pay and worked past the 6 week intern deadline, too many meeting, everyday. Also, received no feedback and I felt I went above and beyond so that was disappointing. I sent personal email after internship had ended and received no response. My laptop broke after like 3 days and I had to drive to the office in Buckhead because tech support had no clue over the phone so that was additional funding for my time/gas that I was not compensated for.

Advice

Good to learn how to manage time working remotely.

Electrical Engineering Intern

May - October 2019 • Guthrie, KY

What I liked

Factory was in the process of getting built.

What I wish was different

Closer to where I live. Solid return offer instead of word of mouth.

Advice

It's a once in a lifetime experience to be a part of a factory getting built. Thay doesn't happen anymore, so being a part of a green field was great. I would recommend taking on a challenge like that to anyone considering.

IT intern

May - August 2019 • Oswego, NY

What I liked

Everyone is willing to help and it made me feel part of the team. I felt like I made a difference in the company.

What I wish was different

Managed my time better to get more work done.

Advice

Don't be discouraged by what you don't think you can do. 90% of what I did, I did not learn directly though school and needed to teach myself.

EHS Intern

May - August 2019 • Oswego, NY

What I liked

The team atmosphere was fun, educational, and encouraged me with my work. I was able to use material I learned from R.I.T. and implement that in my projects.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more of a variety of projects going on at the same time, to help improve my skill levels.

Advice

Be willing to communicate and learn from various employees. Try to network as much as you can, not only for job recruitment, but to learn new experiences.
