The largest botanical garden dedicated to California native plants, Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden promotes botany, conservation and horticulture to inspire, inform and educate the public and scientific community about California's native flora. Founded in 1927 by Susanna Bixby Bryant, a visionary member of one of California's pioneering families, the Garden was established as a location for research and appreciation of native flora, growing to become a world-renowned research institution and botanic garden dedicated to the preservation and cultivation of California native plants. The Garden teems with a Living Collection of more than 22,000 plants native to the California Floristic Province, including rare and endangered species, spread across 86 acres beneath the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. In addition to the Living Collection, the Garden's conservation initiatives - the Seed Conservation Program, Restoration Nursery Program, field studies and laboratory studies - play a major role in protecting species and natural habitats for future generations.
