Rapid City Regional Hospital

Patient care tech

February 2019 • Rapid City, SD

What I liked

I like that I am able to see what goes on in the hospital. I feel like I can prepare better for starting the nursing program. The nurses are great and are always willing to teach and answer any questions that I had while working. I get to see the ins and outs of everyday nursing life, how the day tends to flow, and what I should look out for. I have been apart of a couple rapid responses that are very intense but great to see. The hospital has been great with working with my schedule when school started again in the fall.

What I wish was different

I wish that I didn't work quite as much this summer and enjoyed my time a bit more. I worked a lot of hours/overtime but I signed up for it. I just needed to find a little more of a balance

Advice

Work hard, ask lots of questions, and try to learn as much as you can on the job.

What I liked

My preceptor was awesome! She helped me to learn so much and helped me to figure out how I will make nursing my own career.

What I wish was different

I wish that I did not work all nights, but that was very uncommon for the internship.

Advice

I would say to take the opportunity to go other places in the hospital that you may not like! You never know unless you try.
