The whole culture of the company and how I was able to learn quite a lot.

What I wish was different

Nothing really, besides maybe the fact that we mainly did all the work online and had meetings only over zoom because of the Pandemic.

Advice

Take it seriously and make sure to listen and learn as much as you can from the professional who will be helping you in coming up with great solutions to help your client.

Research Specialist

April - July 2020 • Idaho Falls, ID

What I liked

RBDC has broad experience providing high quality opportunities to BYU-I students. I enjoyed tha chance to work for two US organizations. I learned a lot from the experience with te BYU-I Career Center.

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been chances to participate in a paid internship to aliviate my scholl expenses and dedicate as much time as possible to our projects. Our teams were great but we could have accomplished more if the work had been more colaborative. On individual bases, everyone did their part and it went well but I am sure that we could have expanded our limits more and consequently learned more if a clearer philosophy of collaborative work would be established.

Advice

Organize, in the future, specific programs for online students outside of the US. Find out more about their specific needs and strengths facing this excelent kind of challenge.

What I liked

I liked being able to work with a team as well as a real-world client to apply the skills I have learned in the classroom to an actual deliverable for a client.

What I wish was different

I wish the project had been more clearly designed at the beginning, but it was the first semester for the client so there were a lot of unknowns.

Advice

Be prepared to be flexible on the project goals/deliverables. Giving the client what they want is the most important.

What I liked

I loved that I was able to work with a team and apply the business skills and research tools I’ve gained in class to my internship.

What I wish was different

The internship can feel overwhelming at first, and it can also be kind of ambiguous.

Advice

Don’t quit, it’s the best way to get team and research experience! It’s 10 hours a week and because of this experience I got three interviews and three offered for my second internship.

Senior Project Manager

September 2019 • Rexburg, ID

What I liked

It is a great company to work for that gives me solid leadership experiences and a significant amount of experience of working on various business research projects.

What I wish was different

Sometimes it was difficult to balance my work with being a full-time student at the same time. That falls on me though for not balancing as well.

Advice

Get as much relevant experience as you can while in school. Do not be afraid to try something or work on new projects. Take the time to figure out what you like to work on and where your strengths are. Now is the best time (while being in school) to find out these things.
