Residential Services, Inc.

Psychology Internship

June 2023 • Chapel Hill, NC

What I liked

I have loved working at Residential Services Inc. It has given me great experience in healthcare, psychology and related fields. Working with the residents to reach their independence goals and learn more about disabilities has been invaluable. I liked the fact that you can move up and grow in the company and also feel like your making a difference. I would recommend this experience to anyone looking for a part-time job or getting patient contact hours! They also give you a sign-on bonus which is really nice.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have found out about the job sooner, they offer an employee referral bonus where you can refer friends and get paid for it which I would have taken advantage of. There is down time on the job but honestly its a nice break from being in school and working.

Advice

Come in open minded and ready to do hands-on work. Taking care of others can be difficult at times but so rewarding especially if you are a caring individual.

direct support professional

May - August 2023 • Chapel Hill, NC

What I liked

I was working with some incredible people the whole summer, and gained invaluable clinical experience. Everyone from HR, to my supervisor, and my coworkers were all great people, and the residents I was working with over the summer helped me make some of my favorite memories. You can really make this job anything you want it to be! 10/10 would recommend for all pre-med folks, especially psych students or those who want to work with disabilities!

What I wish was different

Some more day to day structure would have been helpful. Sometimes it felt like I really didn't have anything to do at the house but wait.

Advice

You have to come in with an open mind! Some of the residents living under RSI care need a lot of care, and if this is your first experience in the field you are going to have to learn a lot in a short amount of time, and develop clinical professionalism!
