Rice Engineering, Inc.

Project Manager Intern

May 2021 • Luxemburg, WI

What I liked

I did structural calculations on real projects from clients. unlike many internships that do not get as much hands on experience. They were also very helpful in teaching me and when I had questions.

What I wish was different

Advice

They don't expect you to know everything when you start so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Structural Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Luxemburg, WI

What I liked

Where do I start? I liked the people, the work environment, the clientele, the way they train employees, and the work they do. When Rice brings interns on, they don't treat them like a kid; they treat them (and train them) like a full time engineer. I have heard so many stories from fellow students where they disliked their co-op or internship because they didn't do anything meaningful, or they were just pencil pushers. During my Co-Op at Rice, I was able to work on multiple projects over multiple states. Rice taught me the significance of knowing statics like the back of your hand; along with being able to learn different software's such as Mathcad, AutoCAD, and Risa in depth. I would go as far as to say my Co-Op helped me get better grades in my more advanced structures classes.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have started working for them sooner. I had a Co-Op with them my junior year and it was the best decision I had ever made.

Advice

I would strongly recommend considering a Co-Op position when looking for real world experience. When I was at Rice, the learning curve was incredible; and it only got better the longer I was there.
