I advise anyone who wants to be a camp counselor to be very flexible. Things often change at the last minute, but it is important as the leader for your group of kids to stay in the present and be excited about whatever comes next.

What I liked
I got to meet a lot of interesting and hard-working people that I have continued to keep in touch with even though the summer is over. I got to learn new skills as well as use previously learned skills. I got to work at something that had a purpose to it.
What I wish was different
I was somewhat overworked in that I had to work as early as 5:30 in the morning and work all day until 9 at night with a one hour break. I also often had to work weekends, which meant I didn't have time to recover from previous weeks before going into the next week. I felt especially bad for the volunteer workers, who worked so hard for no pay and little recognition.
Advice
Working there is one of the hardest things you may ever do, yet it will grow you in so many ways and you will make some of the best friends you will ever have.

What I liked
I really enjoyed working with and building relationships with the kids as well as working and living with the other counselors and staff. Taking care of 6-10 girls around the clock for a week was tiring but it was a lot of fun and I learned so much from the experience.
What I wish was different
Communication between leadership and summer staff could have been better and made the experience smoother.
Advice
Someone told me that being a camp counselor was, "the hardest job you'll ever love." Go in with a flexible mindset, while the management might not be the best, having a adaptable mindset will make the experience much smoother.

What I liked
I loved the relationships that I was able to develop with the other counselors who I was working alongside. I am also so thankful for the opportunities I had to work with the kids who stayed in my cabin over the summer. It was such a blessing to be able to have the chance to impact and be a small part of the ministry Ridge Haven leads for the kids who visit the camp.

Working with kids and taking care of a cabin is so much fun!
What I wish was different
Communication between staff and leadership could have been stronger, but overall it was fine, and there was a lot going on to make organization understandably difficult.
Advice
Working at camp is one of the hardest summer jobs you can do, but you won't regret it.
