What I liked

I enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere that encouraged me to learn new skills along with other coworkers.

What I wish was different

I wish my supervisors would have had either more help or less workload so they could have been more available for help.

Advice

If you get put on an existing project, prepare to really learn everything about that project before actually working on it.

What I liked

Rose-Hulman Ventures allowed me to work in an open environment on a variety of different projects. This allowed me to quickly improve and pick up new skills, such as 3D printing, CAD, and creating prototypes. Everyone was from Rose, allowing me to build long term friendships with my coworkers.

What I wish was different

Due to the fact that Ventures receives projects from other companies, there were moments of down time when projects were finished faster than they were created. I would reccomend that Ventures try to encurage everyone to stay busy, constantly learning about the tools of their field by creating more internal projects in the event of a lack of projects.

Advice

Rose Ventures is a great start for those looking for a more challenging internship during later years. It may only be a starting internship, but it is a much more impactful summer experience than any other summer job.

Be adaptable. You might be on the same project or summer or five different projects over the summer.

What I liked

They provide great experience for students and focus on teaching students going to Rose. There is a big focus on designing for manufacturing as many projects that require design also require a student to manufacture the parts.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a larger emphasis on biomedical projects. I am a biomedical engineer but had to work in the mechanical engineering department as the biomedical department is very small and hires very few people.

Advice

A lot of people know Ventures is at the career fair but don't apply. They are willing to hire students from all grades so always apply if you want a great experience.
