What I liked

The flexibility and scheduling for this site. Super easy to use and got lots of requests.

What I wish was different

They take quite a big tax out when I get a good gig that is a lot of money which is fine but sometimes it’s really big.

Advice

Try something new! This app is totally worth the background check and the clients are very sweet.

What I liked

I love animals, so I really enjoyed being hands on with so many dogs.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more business around my area. Since I live in a low income neighborhood, not many people are willing to pay a lot for my services, so I have lower my wages.

Advice

I highly recommend Rover, its such a heart warming job!

Rover Dog Sitter

January 2019 • Lawrenceville, GA

What I liked

I could pick the jobs that I wanted to take! There was no obligation to the number of jobs to keep your profile active. There is no minimum balance needed to transfer money out and I set my own rates. While there are a plethora of sitters in my area, I had no issue finding jobs, even in the beginning when I did not have any references on my profile. During the summer I constantly had to turn jobs down because my schedule was completely booked. I now have clients that I sit for regularly. Personally, I prefer to house sit with the dog. While my clients were away, I stayed in their home and looked after their pets. This allowed the animals to feel more comfortable and ensure around the clock care. I was able to maintain my daily activities like school and sports while earning money by hanging out with animals! Other services I provided were walking and "day care". I come and walk dogs for 30-60 min, and if the owner is out for longer, I take their pets to the dog park or play with them at home. Sitters AND owners are vetted through the website and as a young woman, I was never concerned for my safety while meeting new clients. The company provided excellent support/customer service and the experience as a whole was easy and enjoyable.

What I wish was different

Understandably, the company takes a percentage of your earnings. This makes it difficult to set rates because you have to consider what your end pay will be while also keeping in mind the owners are paying service fees on top of the rate you set.

Advice

The more good reviews you receive, the more relevant your profile will be when clients are searching for sitters in the area. Sending the owner updates about their beloved pets and leaving a client's house just as you found it ensures a good review.

I enjoyed being able to create my own rates and work around my own availability. It was also fun to meet the new fur babies every week.

What I wish was different

Advice

In order to work for Rover, you have to be reliable and organized. You do not want to miss any appointments, and your clients are relying on you to take care of a member of their family while they are away.

Dog caretaker

June 2019 • Germantown, MD

What I liked

I liked learning to care for dogs. Assessing and meeting their needs, sharing a bond with them. The experience allowed me to grow as a person and realize how much I love tending to the needs of others and making them feel safe around me. This job made me really happy.

What I wish was different

I wish I could do this job for a longer period of time, as I stated before I was really happy during my time as a Rover sitter, however, my availability is limited to summer vacation and holiday breaks.

Advice

Keep in mind that pets are special members of the family and they should be treated as such. They are deserving of the same amount of love, attention, and respect that you'd give to your loved ones.

What I wish was different

Pet Sitter

May - July 2018 • Sacramento, CA

What I liked

I got to choose my own hours and pick who I got to work with. Often times, the owners asked for my service next year too!

What I wish was different

The notification setting was kind of whacky at first because someone canceled a job but I wasn't aware until after I showed up at the house.

Advice

Don't be disappointed if you don't get a lot of jobs at first. Also, if you can house sit as well, that will get you a lot more jobs.
