RoviSys

IT/OT Co-Op

May - August 2023 • Aurora, OH

What I liked

At RoviSys, I liked how they threw you on projects that made a difference and didn’t give you busy work because you were a co-op. I also enjoyed the company culture and the events held for employees. Some projects I worked on was writing Cisco network switch configurations for a cutover of a manufacturing plant and even got to go onsite and see my work in action. I also worked on configuring a Stratus ftServer from the ground up and configuring some virtual machines in an Active Directory environment.

What I wish was different

When I traveled on-site to Alabama for a client, I was there for about a week and learned a lot, but at times it was overwhelming. I worked long hours, up to 17 on one of the days. Luckily, RoviSys is flexible with how much you want to travel. I could get behind doing trips like these every once in a while, not all the time.

Advice

Some advice I would give is don’t be afraid to make mistakes Also, asking questions when you are stuck is paramount. The people here will always be glad to help you through something you are not sure about. Learning and growth often come from embracing challenges and seeking support from those around you.

Software Developer Intern

June 2019 • Houston, TX

What I liked

Office atmosphere is modern and spacious. the people are very friendly and like to have fun. The company culture is relaxed but professional. The teams are very diverse and include cultures from all over the world. There is not a heavy competitive vibe and the leaders in the company are helpful but do not micromanage. Once the fall semester began, they were very flexible with my school schedule and allow me to work remotely at times.

What I wish was different

Nothing, I plan to stay with the company for many years.

Advice

During interviews, just be yourself. This company (and I'm sure many more) hire based on whether or not you fit into their culture, not necessarily your technical skills. If you act like someone you're not, and you get the job, you won't be happy. Find where you fit in naturally.

Systems Engineer Co-op

January - August 2017 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

The company culture was fantastic. The company is very young and stresses the work-life balance. The field is specialized so lack of experience is not a problem, all new hires learn from the ground up.

What I wish was different

I personally struggled to work at a computer all day. I would have liked to move around more during the day.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask for more work and be willing to work in multiple divisions to get a full perspective of the company.
