Ryan Companies

Civil Engineering Intern

May - September 2021 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

I loved getting to know my coworkers and working alongside some really great engineers and some really great people. I enjoyed the company culture and how relaxed the setting was, even though everyone was working really hard as well.

What I wish was different

I wish more of my coworkers would have been in the office with me. It was somewhat of a hybrid work experience with people working from home and the office, so it would have been nice to be around more of my team members.

Advice

Ask a lot of questions and don't be afraid to get things wrong. Just make sure that if you do get something wrong, you know how to correct it so that you can make sure it doesn't happen again.

Project Engineer

May - August 2019 • Naperville, IL

What I liked

I loved the hands on experience that I was given. I was able to see the field job of a superintendent and work with subcontractors on a daily basis.

What I wish was different

Although the in-field work was enlightening, I wish I was able to spend a little more time at the office. I enjoyed working with excel and I would have liked to develop my VBA coding skills more throughout the summer.

Advice

Make sure to voice your desires as a worker. If you need more work, make sure to seek out more work. As an intern, you want to indulge in as much activity as you can so that you can learn as much as you can.

Project engineer intern

June - August 2019 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

Fantastic winning culture, nice office, happy environment, all around everything

What I wish was different

More on site work regularly. I spoke with other interns from the Minneapolis office and from the sounds of it they were out in the field daily.

Advice

Put yourself out there, dint be shy if you have a question. It’s better to ask and know rather than keeping to yourself and looking foolish
