Research Assistant
October 2018 • St. Louis, MO
What I liked
The research is very independent. I devised my own protocols for computer analysis and executed them on my schedule.
What I wish was different
It has been a positive experience overall, but I wish I was able to work more closely with other people in my lab.
Advice
Be persistent when applying to research positions. Many of the Principle Investigators do want undergraduate research assistants, but are so busy with other things that they only pay attention to students who follow up on their own accord.

Facilities Student Worker
May - August 2019 • St. Louis, MO
What I liked
Independent work, good coworkers and management, on-campus housing, good wage.
What I wish was different
Facilities did not hire a crew manager until halfway through the summer, leaving the oversight to student workers and full-time maintenance workers. One particular full-time employee attempted to give orders to student workers with no authority while he did nothing. When a manager was hired, they instated extremely difficult and often impossible deadlines that were incongruent with the condition of the buildings.
Advice
Be prepared to step up to guide fellow workers to get the job done.

Information Technology Intern
August 2018 • St. Louis, MO
What I liked
I love working with students and faculty. It developed my passion for IT even further as I got to get closer with the full-time staff and supervisors. I also live in an off-campus apartment so walking to work was very peaceful during the summer.
What I wish was different
Nothing!
Advice
Just enjoy what you do. There are many people who do not enjoy a 9-5 Mon-Fri. I genuinely enjoyed it simply because I love what I do.
