I liked that I work in a hospital setting because it’s applicable to my future goals of becoming a doctor. I am networking and getting my name out in the field.

Patient Care Technician
August 2017 - July 2019 • New Brunswick, NJ
What I liked
I liked the real world experience I got. I wasn't stuck to administrative tasks, I was fully involved in the emergency room environment. I really enjoyed interacting with patients and being able to help them.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had more coworkers who were also students, so I'd have friends to talk to during work and be able to coordinate with each other.
Advice
I would advise anyone interested in the medical field, particularly a career dealing with patients, to consider working in a hospital and seeing firsthand what it's like to deal with patients.

Volunteer at Pediatric Emergency Department
June 2018 • New Brunswick, NJ
What I liked
I loved being able to learn firsthand experience of what it was like to be a nurse in that environment and how hands-on it was. It gave me an idea of what it would be like in a Pediatric emergency Unit, compared to the one I may have imagined in my head. I also liked interacting with the kids, they were so sweet and it was neat getting to know them. The nurses and doctors were also very welcoming, they would show me the ins and outs of the unit and how everything worked, while being completely understanding if I had any questions or anything of the sorts.
What I wish was different
My only wish is that it was closer to my home, so that I could have been there more often. However, everything else was great!
Advice
I would definitely recommend asking the other nurses and doctors what their favorite parts are in regards to their career. It's interesting getting to know their background and why they got to where they are now.
