What I liked

I enjoyed the hands-on approach to scientific research that is not available at many institutions for undergraduate students. There were multiple presentations to help with public speaking, and the research conducted by you could even be published in your mentor's work.

What I wish was different

The housing for the program could have been better as we stayed in a dorm, but it was good to have a dorm room and dining dollars for Augustana University.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Everyone in the lab is there to help you, and they are willing to share their experiences with you.

What I liked

Learning about Native American studies, going to Rosebud Reservation to meet key people with different organizations, conducting a lit review for my poster presentation

What I wish was different

Been able to travel more days to Rosebud

Don't be afraid to tackle different things in life! Learn from experience.

What I liked

I enjoyed the hands on experiance I had with the program at Sanford. I always felt as if I was a valued member of the team. I also recieved great mentoring from the head of the lab I was in. I will be applying to graduate school there this semster and is my number one choice based off the experiance I had.

What I wish was different

Nothing my experiance was fantastic!

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask questions, try something new, or make mistakes. People that mentor have all been in your shoes and have been nervous. They understand how you are feeling. I watched my mentor, who has been doing research for over 20 years, makes some of the basic mistakes in the lab. So it happens to the best of us, you just have to know that and try again till you succeed.
