Structured and educational training program before starting; balanced experience in the field and in the office; supervisors ensured that I had a full understanding of the work being done and its purpose; I was given tasks equivalent to that of a first-year accountant and that contributed directly to the audits; everyone on the team was very friendly and personable, making me feel comfortable with asking for help or just having friendly conversation.

Advice
Do not be afraid to ask questions. Staff and supervisors want you to question everything you are doing so you can fully learn and understand the audit work and its purpose. Asking many questions shows you are making an effort to both learn and produce high quality audit work.

What I liked
I liked the working with clients as well as the individual assignments I received. I liked the culture of Bonadio and feel like I made good connections with my teammates.
What I wish was different
I wish that there was a mentorship program within Bonadio for interns and 1st year employees.
Advice
Make friends with your fellow interns. It's so helpful to be able to go to each other with little questions. And it also helps to reinforce the knowledge that you are learning when you teach it to others.

Enterprise Risk Management Intern

What I liked
Everyone was extremely nice, friendly, and patient with the inters. They gave us adequate training to get a footing with our jobs, and all supervisors truly wanted us to learn and be successful.
What I wish was different
Sometimes we lagged a bit on work to do, but that was maybe only about 5% of the time. The rest we were busy learning and working on real projects!
Advice
Look into them early - they hire early, and have quite the pick of candidates!

Small Business Advisory Intern
January - April 2019 • Pittsford, NY
What I liked
The people and the work I did in the first part of the internship, preparing tax returns and compilations for small businesses. I was treated as a valued member of the team and was given a good amount of legitimate responsibility.
What I wish was different
The second half of the internship got to be repetitive and I received little training for what I was doing from March until April, which was individual tax returns. I would have appreciated more training
Advice
Take every opportunity you're given in an opportunity like this as a chance to learn-- even if its administrative task or small thing to do, there's always some kind of skill that can be taken away from it.
