I really loved the work environment at the Leadership Conference. The work atmosphere is rooted in a culture of mentorship and networking, which is incredibly helpful for student interns. Interns are sorted into several different small teams, which offers them the opportunity to find a support system at work. The work that the Leadership Conference does is also important and meaningful, and thus the position felt very purposeful.
What I wish was different
Given the remote format of the internship because of COVID-19, there weren't as many opportunities for networking with other interns or employees as there could have been. Though uncontrollable, I wished there were opportunities for in-person mentorship.
Advice
Any summer internship is what you make of it. Every organization and firm has wonderfully experienced, kind, and intelligent people who are extremely willing to help, especially students. Do your due diligence in reaching out to people you want to learn from!

What I liked
I really enjoyed how passionate the employees were about their work, the opportunity to attend events in D.C., and learning about the different ways to enact social change.
What I wish was different
I wish there was more communication prior to starting the internship and that there were more opportunities to create written work.
Advice
I would advise future interns to take full advantage of the resources available at the Leadership Conference by attending as many meetings and events as possible and by interacting with different members of the staff.
