I really liked that I got to work under professional engineers and learn how to read and interpret their drawings/construction plans. I was able to see first hand how much time and effort goes into planning out a new residential subdivision, replacing roads, putting in sewer systems, etc. McMahon does an excellent job of making you feel welcomed and as though you have all the support to be able to succeed.
What I wish was different
I wish I had a bit more training before I was out in the field myself. However, this job is one that requires a bit of trial and error. You learn from your mistakes and continue to gain knowledge on how to improve for next time.
Advice
This experience was not exactly related to my majors, however, I am extremely grateful I did it. Working directly with senior engineers of different fields (civil, municipal, water resources) allowed me to gain knowledge in many different sectors. The hands on field work will prepare you for doing any environmental/engineering related job.
