The White House

White House Management Office Intern

June - August 2020 • Washington, DC

What I liked

It was an amazing experience where I was able to see and do many cool things inside one of the most important places in the country. The people were fantastic and knowing your work would help the American people was very fulfilling.

What I wish was different

I wish COVID-19 was not present because I was not able to get the full internship experience due to some of the restrictions put in place.

Advice

Do not be afraid to get to know people from all different offices, do not take yourself too seriously, and have fun.

Intern

May - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

The opportunity to intern in such a historic place was an incredible honor. In addition, the speaker series and outside activities were both informative and engaging. In all my internship experiences, I would certainly state that this has been the most beneficial to my overall development as a student, leader, and individual overall.

What I wish was different

Aside from the downside of not receiving any form of compensation, the opportunity was an extremely beneficial one that I would not change. The program is well established and an invaluable way to connect with both young leaders from across the US and with well established leading thinkers working in DC.

Advice

I would advise any future intern to soak up every conversation and meeting, making note of relationships and contacts. Each person you meet will likely be kind and willing to provide advice based on their experiences and path. Ask for these opportunities to learn, and be sure to thank people for their time. These relationships will outlast any experience.

January - May 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I learned all about the inner workings of the government, how to be a successful leader, and what it's like to work for and alongside some of the brightest minds in the world. I was been challenged each and everyday to the upper limits of my abilities and learned so much, but most importantly, I gained a true appreciation for what it means to be a proud American.

What I wish was different

Nothing!

Advice

Take the time to fully appreciate every moment of an internship before it's over. Especially if it's one you love!
