Nothing really, except for more flexible hours.

Advice

When working as a museum assistant / security guard, do not be afraid to speak up when you see something, even if its minor. Both the art and visitor need to stay safe.

Family & Youth Programs Intern

What I liked

Wonderful community of people to work with, had a chance to engage with and shape programming in a real way, had creative freedom to design own projects but also worked as part of a supportive team, access to educational resources and hands-on experience with museum education and 'playwork.'

What I wish was different

We had a chance to formally connect with other staff and interns outside of our department in the late summer which could have been even more effective if it were a bit earlier.

Advice

Be prepared to think creatively and resourcefully about ways to connect artworks, materials, spaces, and the needs of different participants. Be prepared to engage openly with museum visitors and reorient programs and activities at a moment's notice.
