I liked the actual nature of Commercial Real Estate. It was intense, competitive, and unique. The company I interned with (TSCG) was amazing. The office culture and vibe were playful, hard-working, and smart people working at achieving big goals every day. We even had an office boat day on Friday. The friendships and networking connections I made were also great. I was intimidated at first but after the first day, I was relieved at how welcoming and helpful everyone was in the office. I know it sounds cliche but I am being serious, it was a wonderful experience and I would recommend interning and or working for this company to anyone interested in pursuing Commercial Real Estate.
What I wish was different
I honestly think the only thing that I would have liked to have had was more of a schedule of who I was shadowing that day, I had one big project the whole summer, but in addition to that, I would float around to see if anyone needed help with anything and to see what else I could learn.
Advice
One big piece of advice I would share with anyone looking for an internship or job is to be respectful and treat everyone equally, no matter their level/position in the company. It really pays off being kind, being yourself, and sometimes putting others' needs before your own. It makes a difference when there is no hostility in the workplace, everyone can be themselves. In Commercial Real Estate, it takes a whole team of people to get the job done, it is important to have a good relationship with the people your work with, because at the end of the day you have the information they want, and they have the information that you want.
The last thing that I would say is, to be honest. If you make a mistake, it is okay, what's not okay is not admitting to it or lying about it. Always be honest, and combat your mistake by verbalizing how you will fix it or how you know now not to make that mistake again.
