About U.S. Air Force

Detachment 390 is located at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We first contracted with the university in 1952. In the last 20 years, Detachment 390 has provided training to thousands of candidates and has commissioned more than 800 new United States Air Force Second Lieutenants.
Cadets within the program at our detachment find themselves surrounded by others who also desire a challenging career as an officer in the world’s leading military power. Detachment 390 focuses on preparing young men and women for military leadership, regardless of the specialized career field in which they find themselves upon graduating and commissioning.
While part of the AFROTC program, cadets are not only prepared to step into the United States Air Force as Second Lieutenants but also developed as citizens and students. Current active duty Air Force officers teach the AFROTC courses with topics such as Air Force history, leadership, management, and national security affairs. A weekly Leadership Laboratory provides cadets with the opportunities and feedback needed to develop the important skills required of successful Air Force officers.
