I enjoyed the benefits and the team I was placed was well suited for me. I learned I lot about the whole process and innerworks within my team and how it contributed to the business as a whole.
What I wish was different
I wish I was given a project a little less frontend based and more focused on backend. A project that had more documentation beforehand would be nice.
Advice
It's a lot of quick and heavy learning at the start. Don't fall behind.

Advice
If you're going to do Uber Eats you should definitely make sure you're going to commit to it, I only earned back the gas money I used for this job when I drove for several hours at once during a day

What I liked
Driving around the city and delivering food to people.
What I wish was different
I wish I had taken more orders that were offered.
Advice
Do not accept any order that do not pay twice the distance you drive. Example: $10order to drive 7miles isnt really worth the drive.

Marketing Intern
June - September 2021 • San Francisco, CA
What I liked
I liked how innovative and forward-thinking everyone at Uber was. It was my first internship at a tech company, so I got to learn a lot about backend tech and the culture.
What I wish was different
I had a full remote experience due to COVID, I wish I had a chance to connect with my team and other interns through in-person activities.
Advice
I think the two most important things when recruiting for a summer internship are practicing for interviews and networking. The UCSB Career Service's mock interviews are helpful, and make sure to network and connect with as many people on LinkedIn.

Uber Eats Delivery
June - August 2020 • Lombard, IL
What I liked
I loved that I was able to get exercise daily (weather permitted) and give people joy as they receive their food. It was always the highlight of my day. And it made me even happier when I got tipped later in the day. It was a good job to have in the middle of a pandemic.
What I wish was different
I wish my mom would have let me use her car so I wouldn't have to deliver orders on bike.
Advice
Only people who are dedicated to working hard despite life's circumstance, great customer service skills, and love to make people happy can do this job. It doesn't pay much, but it gives you a little extra change in your pocket.

Food Delivery
June - August 2020 • Denver, CO
What I liked
I could choose my own hours, the pay was good during rush periods, and there were a number of benefits like cash back on gas for long-term drivers.
What I wish was different
The system will let you know if you get a poor review on a delivery, but often customers won't specifically tell you what the problem was and the system won't tell you which delivery was poorly reviewed so it can be tough to determine what you need to improve on. Also, your net earnings are heavily dependent on gas prices and which deliveries Uber offers to you. If you're only offered deliveries that involve long drives you're unlikely to make much that day.
Advice
Try and find times to drive that line up with the lunch/dinner rush, as well as only using Uber to supplement another source of income. I was able to only drive Uber this summer because the pandemic led to more people ordering delivery but as restaurants reopened the amount I made plummeted.
