What I liked

I enjoyed the new lab skills such as making agar plates, cloning, micropipettng etc. For anyone who's interested in getting lab experience or is thinking of working at a lab this is definitely one you can check out :) My lab had discovered new viruses before they had spread and I just think that's so cool!

What I wish was different

It will take up some of your time so make sure to communicate what your schedule is like so you can work with the researchers the best way for you to help the team. Once you're in, you're a part of the team so communication is critical. If there's something that conflicts be sure to bring it up to your lab manager or the researcher your shadowing. In addition, make sure to ask to learn more new things, this shows you're drive and sense of initiative. Also! Bring a notepad or something to take notes while they show you around lab, there'll be things you'd have to remember and this'll also show them you are taking it seriously. Good luck!
