UC Davis Sustainability

Zero Waste Coordinator

August 2021 • Davis, CA

What I liked

I am currently still employed at this department and I like what the department stands for as well as what our day to day actions work towards.

What I wish was different

I wish I would be able to work more than the maximum time allowed, which is 10 hours.

Advice

When interviewing, try to find information about the department you are being hired by and ask questions regarding their mission or values. Also don’t be afraid to ask the length of time the internship is and if it is paid or unpaid. I would also be clear with what your limitations are. If you are only able to work 5 hours a week, then be sure to ask if there is a minimum amount that you need to work to stay employed.

Sustainability Intern

June - September 2019 • Davis, CA

What I liked

The job was pretty easy going and my supervisor Sue Vang was super encouraging and helpful. I really loved becoming more familiar with an office setting.

What I wish was different

I liked the balance of the job but the job description was not descriptive enough on how physically active it was. I would have appreciated knowing that it was only half office and half active.

Advice

You have to really be interested in the waste management system and recycling in order to be motivated for this job. If that does not interest you then don't take it.
