Research Assisstant

October 2021 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed the team of people who taught me how to use SPSS and trained me to help in the research. It was always comfortable to reach out to my team if I ever had any questions, and this gave me good experience in a lab despite it being remote.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was reached out to sooner. I had applied in August but only received an email back in October and, from that two month gap, I had forgotten I put in an application. I understand that employers are busy, but I wish we got faster replies.

Advice

Don't be afraid to apply to job or internship postings. Even if you think you aren't qualified enough for it or that you won't get the position, always apply. Especially for freshman, it seems so limited in what opportunities you have. But there are employers who understand that and still reach out to you. Apply because there's always a chance for you to get that opportunity.
