It gave me experience on how to fix things around the house and now I don’t need to call a maintenance person and pay a lot of money and I can save that and do it on my own
What I wish was different
I wish the pay would be higher
Advice
Great experience for anyone wanting to save money and learn how to fix things around your house in the future

Electrical Engineering Intern
June - August 2018 • Santa Cruz, CA
What I liked
I liked how I got to work on my own and figure out what different parameters to measure. Also, I had a supporting staff who gave me tips and guided me to the right direction. It was just fun learning something new that I had no background in. I was learning about nano-magnets and it's pretty cool how these devices can hold data.
What I wish was different
I wish the internship was a little more organized. Felt like they didn't know they were getting an intern and wasn't sure what to do. Also, I wish I had more communication with my principle investigator.
Advice
My advice would be even if you don't have any background on the subject, don't be afraid to try something new and learn about it. They are there to help you out and teach you new skills.

Undergraduate Researcher
June - August 2019 • Santa Cruz, CA
What I liked
I enjoyed the freedom to set my hours, I learned a great deal about cell culture and cDNA synthesis, and there were lots of fun, informative professional development workshops to attend.
What I wish was different
I wish the mentorship had been better, communication between the PI and students could have used more effort, and the lab could be more organized for efficiency.
Advice
Do your research about the culture of a workplace before taking an offer. Research is one thing, mentorship is another ball game.
