The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the work was meaningful and engaging, and I learned so much about the impact that nonprofit work in general has on Erie County.
What I wish was different
I wish it was a paid internship so I could have committed more time and attention to the work instead of needing to have a second job on the side. You can receive college credit for this experience though so if you are looking for an internship for class this is a great option.
Don't be afraid to reach out to everyone in the office. While there is a traditional office hierarchy, everyone was very nice and willing to sit down and talk with me one on one. I really enjoyed my time there and the work I got to do and would honestly recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about the non profit world or marketing in general. United Way has great relationships all over Erie and you get to meet a lot of people.
