Uniting for Action

Project Manager

February 2021 • Denver, CO

What I liked

Though my time as an intern for the Vaccine Considerations Project hasn't been long thus far, I can already say that this organization prioritizes the health and wellness of all who are considering vaccinating themselves against COVID-19. They believe in science, research, and informed consent when it comes to the public and their decision about which vaccine is right for them and their families. Leadership within the organization has been a pleasure to work with, and they genuinely care about ensuring this project aligns with my future career path and professional goals. Through the VCP's efforts, there will hopefully be a decrease in vaccine hesitancy, and as a result, a brighter and safer future for everyone. For any student looking into internship and practicum opportunities, I highly recommend considering the Vaccine Considerations Project.

Public Health Intern

June - December 2021 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I enjoyed the freedom to work on projects that I was interested in and the unique opportunities that I was given. The entire team is so encouraging and helpful. Everyone encouraged me to come out of my shell and showed me great support. I was able to increase my skills in multiple fields, like analysis, leadership, and public speaking. I also got to increase my skills in areas I previously thought I was not interested in!

My experience with Vaccine Considerations Project was amazing! From the start until the end, the founder, Jared, and the team leaders made sure that I was doing work that I wanted to do and would benefit me while being relevant to our mission, as well as encourage communication of any ideas/topics that I would be interested in working on, as long as they fall within the project's areas. Advice

A good quality to have if you are interested in joining is open-mindedness, as there are various opportunities presented that you may not be familiar with in terms of your field of study, and the weekly tasks generally differ quite a bit from one another.

Public Health intern

May - August 2021 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I loved that after the interview with the founder, Jared, he made sure before offering the position to me that this internship would be best suited for me and my wins and what I was looking to get out of my master's practicum program (or Applied Practical Experience). I was attracted to this summer practicum program because of the flexibility since I work full time and take courses and also an opportunity for a leadership role. When I started with VCP, I started out as a teammate on the Research Team which is what I was most attracted to and also the Business Team because I have experience with administrative tasks. I shortly became the Business Team Lead then moved onto be the Research Team Lead. Working with the VCP team members and Jared has been such an enjoyable experience. I recommend all who is willing to work in a start up company who have creative minds and who's goal is to ultimately help centralize the repository of COVID-19 data and information for the public to apply!

Advice

Plan to attend at least two meetings a week. You are able to participate in more than one team but I would not recommend being on more than 2 teams if you are doing classes at the same time. This ensures you can focus on the tasks for those two teams and complete them to the best of your ability.
