What I liked

I like that I was able to help the healthcare staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was able to help out with handing out scrubs to the staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, helped with the line for COVID antibody testing and putting labels on requisitions or to shake tubes as needed with the phlebotomists. As a public health student, I saw how a health facility made their guidelines and how they were implemented.

What I wish was different

My interest in becoming an active leader within the UI Health volunteer program is driven by my enthusiasm and passion and contributing my knowledge to better improve our connection between the patient and the staff. I wish I would hear the meetings for the creation of COVID-19 guidelines. I would have gotten more on the perception of the administration in the hospital.

Advice

I really enjoy working as a volunteer because I get the chance to talk to people from different backgrounds. Also, learn how to communicate with different communities. Being able to participate in volunteer work is not only in developing your skills you get the chance to work with the community and establish a friendly relationship and service.
