What I liked

Being introduced to a different area in science was both daunting and exhilarating. The amount of support received from faculty and staff while pursuing research made all the difference when things were frustratingly difficult. Every effort was made to encourage me to challenge what I could achieve and it helped me grow as a scientist.

What I wish was different

I only wish that I had become more involved in research sooner!

Advice

It's important to meet with an advisor or mentor early and often. Do some background research on your own first, then direct your questions to people who can help you find out more. If you do not understand, say as much! Just be ready to make mistakes and learn as much as you can.

It was a great internship and a great opportunity to get job experience. It had very flexible hours.

I wish there had been a little more structure to the assignments and projects in the internship.

Be ready to learn a lot of coding and statistical analysis tools.

Bring headphones! Hours of grinding away at the computer are more enjoyable with your favorite tunes!
