University of Toronto

Undergraduate Researcher

May - August 2020 • Toronto, Ontario

What I liked

The opportunity to experience real research and collaborate with people at the highest level of research.

What I wish was different

If the COVID-19 pandemic was not a problem, it would have been nice to have the experience in person.

Advice

Apply in January and really just enjoy all the opportunities which this program gives you.

Intern

June 2020 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I loved the team! Worked with really organized and driven people who were passionate about the material. Mastered many skills I would not have learned otherwise.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a laptop that SDSU promised me but never granted. I also wish they were upfront about the stipend as they said I would be getting 2,000 but of course after taxes and all I probably made about 1400.

Advice

Stay on top of assigned work, you do not want to be the team member everyone picks up after. We were already dealt many tasks and picking up the slack from others was too much sometimes. Plus in the intern setting their are more opportunities for letters of recommendation and such so really act professional.

July - August 2018 • Toronto, Ontario

What I liked

It was lovely. I got experience researching and got to know if I like that kind of work (turns out I do).

What I wish was different

Nothing in particular

Advice

Try some research (your own, not just helping someone) as an undergrad to figure out if you like it.
