My supervisor gave me the chance to jump right in on my first day. While this was scary, because I didn’t know what I was doing, I think I learned how to use our email building system faster and better because I was forced to try it and learn from my mistakes.
I also liked that I got to try a lot of new things and was given the opportunity to do things that weren’t in the job description - like going to various Alliance events and writing a small business success story.
What I wish was different
There would be some days/weeks where it seemed like I had nothing to do. If I ever did ask my supervisor for extra work, all I would get was be a “bounce list” to work on, which is mind-numbingly boring.
Advice
Don’t be afraid to try new things and ask to do things not necessarily expected of you. This office has a very open door policy and I feel like I got to know other people better by asking if there was something I could do to help them.
