Morton's

PCA

August 2002 - May 2003 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

I am currently a Trauma Surgeon. I gained so much experience working for the Morton’s. The training provided was clear. My role in that position was brought up by interviewers during my application to medical school and general surgery residency. It was always a friendly environment. The Morton’s are great people and I have remained in contact with them because of that.

What I wish was different

I only wish I found out about the position sooner, so that I could have worked for the Morton’s longer before graduating.

Advice

Learn everything you can if you get this position. Take it all in and realize the importance of what you are doing.

Personal Care Aide

May 2000 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

Client and family are a great group to work for and wonderful people as well. They gave plenty of training to give me an invaluable opportunity to get the health care experience hours in direct patient care I needed for admission to PA school.

What I wish was different

Nothing. I enjoyed all my time working for them and the time I also spent volunteering for their fundraiser organization as well! I enjoyed working for them so much I continued part-time throughout PA school on some evenings and weekends and until I graduated from PA school.

Advice

This position and job opportunity I truly believe was instrumental to helping me get the direct health care experience to confirm I was on correct path to enjoying a career in direct patient health care. I really believe this gave me a step up for admission to PA school and helping to shape my career path to being a Physician Assistant because it did expose me to such a variety of different medical cares. This type of opportunity can give you hours I needed for admission to Physician Assistant program or other health care advanced degree programs without having a nursing assistant or other degree while attending my school undergrad years. I was able to learn and perform a variety of healthcare duties with a single client that in real-time medical practice would cross multiple medical specialities. I highly recommend to anyone seriously considering PA, NP, RN or MD as a career.

Personal Care Assistant

August 2021 - September 2022 • Tempe, AZ

What I liked

This job was a great introduction into patient care and medical procedures! Peter has been hiring personal assistants for many years and has the process down to a science. You will be given all the training and resources you need to feel comfortable and confident as an assistant. Peter has his routine memorized and will walk you through everything. Peter is patient, kind, intelligent, and a great conversationalist! If you are interested in the medical field (nurse, PA, pre-med, PT, etc.) this is the perfect job for you! Peter and his wife are wonderful people, and I could not recommend working for them more.

What I wish was different

Nothing! This was a great opportunity for students interested in the medical field. Hours and pay were fair.

Advice

I would advise anyone interested in getting patient care hours and medical experience to take this job! Get as much out of the experience as possible and get to know Peter and his family. They are great people who will continue to support you through life!

Medical Personal Care Assistant

April 2022 • Chandler, AZ

What I liked

As a prehealth student, this job has been a great opportunity to gain extensive medical skills that are directly applicable to my future career in healthcare. In addition to being trained on procedures such as tracheostomy suctioning and catheter changes, I have also enjoyed the opportunity to gain patient care experience. As a medical personal care assistant, I have built up my clinical hours and even had an opportunity to earn a letter of recommendation. With flexible part-time hours and a location close to ASU, it has been an ideal job for me.

Personal Care Assistant

January 2022 • Chandler, AZ

What I liked

I have really enjoyed working as a Personal Care Assistant for the Morton family. I've learned a lot of hands-on medical skills and knowledge from this position, which has built my confidence in wanting to pursue the medical field. They are very kind and good people, and it has been a pleasure for me to work for them.

What I wish was different

Being someone who isn't usually a morning person, I had to adjust to the early start times of this job. During weekdays, the shifts start at 7 am.

Advice

A piece of advice I'd share about this experience is that it is a position that needs to be taken seriously. There is great responsibility that comes with the nature of this job, but it is incredibly rewarding as well. Assistants should be prepared for this responsibility.
