About North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality

The NC Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is the lead stewardship agency for the protection of North Carolina's environmental resources.

The organization, which has offices from the mountains to the coast, administers regulatory programs designed to protect air quality, water quality, and the public's health, and also works to advance an all-of-the-above energy strategy that fits North Carolina’s needs. DEQ also offers technical assistance to businesses, farmers, local governments, and the public and encourages responsible behavior with respect to the environment through education programs provided at DEQ facilities and through the state's school system.

Water Quality Outreach

May 2020 - July 2020 Raleigh, NC
“I gained a lot of various experiences from this internship which made it extremely rewarding. I gained interview experience by interviewing conservationists across North Carolina to get their perspectives on water quality management projects. I received grant review experience because I studied dozens of water management grant applications and projects. I learned how to be a part of a team despite only ever working with them remotely (due to COVID-19). Lastly, I put my document design and writing skills to work for NC State government to improve the quality of our natural environment. ”
