I really enjoy the people here, they're all so friendly and kind! The work isn't too complicated and I get to do a variety of things. It also helps to work with a diversity of people in different circumstances, every one of them has a problem that's important to them, and it's important that I take that seriously.
What I wish was different
Nothing! I had exactly the summer I wanted to, a good mix of work and travel.
Advice
You could have a dream position, but if the people aren't good to be around, it won't be a good time. Scanning and indexing isn't exactly what I love to do, but I do love the environment and the people. The job is also super flexible with hours, which really helps with my changing schedule.

Business Analyst
May - August 2018 • Rochester, NY
What I liked
I enjoyed the people i worked with, the structure of the job, and how much real life, hands on experience i recieved. My employer made it so that the job was structured as close to being in the real world, rather than only having me do "internship" type work.
What I wish was different
Communication, communication! We had to work with multiple different departments and people. Often communication would be lost or ignored, causing strain on me being able to actually do my job effectively,
Advice
Make the most out of the time you have in the internship. Make sure to make meaningful connections during your time as well, it will come in handy in the future.

Student Worker
May 2019 • Rochester, NY
What I liked
I liked the flexibility with the hours and how friendly the staff is. It was easy to get a shift covered if needed but I always liked coming into work. Gaining a different perspective on how the university works was also incredibly interesting.
What I wish was different
Staff can be really passive aggressive if they have an issue with what you're doing which at times can be disheartening and come across unprofessional. All in all, it's a very easy job with very few con.
Advice
Just don't be lazy and you'll be fine!

Orientation Leader
August 2018 • Rochester, NY
What I liked
The team environment was a very enjoyable experience. Everyone working there was all about having fun. I did this for two years and had a great experience both times.
What I wish was different
The organization of training could have been a little better. As a second year Orientation Leader, I had to listen to the same presentations both years, so I think it could have been better orchestrated for non-first timers.
Advice
Get used to constantly working in teams. It is very rare that you do anything on your own.

This employer views academics as more important than work, so they prioritize student workers’ studies first, which was very different from my time in food service.
