Research Fellow
May - August 2019 • Rochester, NY
What I liked
I liked that the work environment was largely self-motivated and focused on collaboration between the peers in my cohort. It gave us the chance to create and work on a project that we were passionate about with minimal outside interference and an appropriate amount of support from our primary investigator which gave a good idea of what graduate school would look like/function like.
What I wish was different
I wish that the program had been a bit longer so that we had more time to flesh out our finished product and to meet with our primary investigator to make sure that the papers that we worked on got published.
Advice
One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to really put yourself out there and make sure that you are getting the most out of your experience. In environments like this, it is up to you to push yourself to truly feel like you came away with new skills -- but if you can do that, it will be a very fruitful experience!

EYF
June - July 2019 • Rochester, NY
What I liked
The experience as a whole was a great leadership role for me to take on. I learned a lot about myself and my peers.
What I wish was different
I actually be paid for how much I worked. Example we get paid $900.00 for the whole month, dorm, and food but I worked from 6:30 AM- 1AM or 2AM everyday and only had one day off with no breaks. They took our pay slips and had us sign before camp so they could change our hours for us. But i don't feel I was actually paid fairly for the work I did.
Advice
I understand why people only work this camp once and never want to do it again.

What I liked
I was treated more like a co-worker than a student on co-op . The work environment was great
What I wish was different
I couldn't work than 40 hours per week, and it would have been beneficial to others if I could have.
Advice
It was a great learning opportunity for new technologies that I hadn't yet worked with. Not for someone looking to simply fulfill a co-op requirement.
