Warehouse Stocker

June - August 2020 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

The salary is great. Management was fantastic and very professional. My co-workers were awesome and respectful to me. I was able to get 39 hours right off the bat.

What I wish was different

I wish I didn't have to work until 10:45pm most days, but the money made it worth it.

Advice

If you like to talk to people, work in the front end of the store where you can cashier and spend more time talking to customers. If you prefer to have less customer interaction, work with night merchandise. You will get customer interaction, but not as much.

deli worker

April - November 2020 • Chesterfield County, VA

What I liked

The day to day becomes pretty standard once you become familiar with the Deli production log. You are on your feet all day for the job and are always moving to fulfil orders or connect with members. While working a student, they are more than accommodating to your class schedule. You will just have to submit a copy to management. If you enjoy a rapidly changing workplace that responses to the needs of members day to day without having to learn a process every day, you will enjoy the work! It also pays very well for a part-time position, starting at $15 an hour.

What I wish was different

Outside of your student schedule or if you are hoping to work at Costco after graduation, you will not receive a consistent schedule. Some Mondays you'll come in at 5:30am, other Mondays you'll come in at 1:30pm. In this way, it was hard to plan around the workday. We are given copies of the schedules on the starting day of the week, but changes can occur any time as long as they alert you within 24 hours of your start time. This was incredibly frustrating for me as I wanted

Advice

If you have an open schedule and enjoy steady, fast-paced work, I believe this to be the perfect end-of-semester, holiday break job! It pays very well, but please be sure to take care of your body as the job is quite physically demanding. Take time to stretch and drink water. Never feel pressured to skip your state-mandated breaks. During the interview process, be sure to let them know your expectations surrounding schedules.

Front-End Assistant

May 2020 • Helena, MT

What I liked

They pay pretty well, offer decent hours, and allow students to join a program that allows them to work only during the summer and winter breaks in order to focus on school when it's in session.

What I wish was different

It was about as I expected. I wish I could have done something within my degree, but with COVID-19 it was not really possible.

Advice

This is a good job for those who cannot get an internship within their degree and want steady income while not attending school.

Certified Pharmacy Technician

January 2020 • South Jordan, UT

What I liked

I love the employer. Costco is amazing, and they treat their employees like assets.

What I wish was different

I wish that there would be more help during flu season. With the fears of Covid-19 and flu season starting, there was more work than could be handled by the amount of people in the pharmacy. However, this is an issue being found among all pharmacies. There is simply too much demand.

Advice

Recognize that pharmacy is a high-stress environment. If you don't like working under stressful conditions, this is not the direction you want to go. However, Costco is an amazing employer, and they will treat you well.

Depot Associate

June 2020 • West Palm Beach, FL

What I liked

The company culture. Everyone is so nice and friendly, and Costco makes sure to emphasize having good relations with our coworkers, supervisors, and managers. Since we are a depot, we don't interact with any members, so we're not surrounded by as much people that a store would have. Because of COVID-19, this is something I've been extremely grateful for.

What I wish was different

That I started earlier! I've been home since March and it wasn't until June that I got involved with Costco. I absolutely love everything about the company because I find myself extremely aligned with their values (organization, doing the right thing, being kind and respectful, delivering quality work, etc.).

Advice

Work your hardest and to the best that you can. They notice it! Costco truly notices when you put in good effort and deliver quality work. Because my values are so similar to the company's, I enjoyed going the extra mile for them.

Internal Audit Intern

June - September 2020 • Issaquah, WA

What I liked

I got to work with such a great group of people. Everyone was so kind and absolutely brilliant. The work us interns got to help with for the summer was very hands on. I felt that the work I did made an impact. It really was such a great summer experience!

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish was different would be that I got to see the whole team each day. With the pandemic, we communicated virtually with some of the team. And even doing that, the communication was still great, I'm just more of a face to face person.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is to always ask questions, it'll help further your learning experience.
