Costco
November 2016 • Woodbridge, VA
What I liked
I was working long hours in order to help pay my tuition. The environment is always hectic due to the amount of customers we get, but it is nice to talk with people with different backgrounds. I also enjoyed bulging relationships with my coworkers, they are truly supportive.
What I wish was different
I wish I would have been more involved with other departments. I would have liked to work in the tire center, pharmacy, or even the meat section.
Advice
I would say be open to any opportunity given, those chances will help you climb up the ladder.

I liked the people that I worked with. They were always helpful and kind, answering questions and switching shifts and helping with responsibilities. Very human.
What I wish was different
I wish there was more opportunity for growth. I could cross train and learn different skills, but moving "up" takes a very long time.

Use a job like Costco as a fall back, if you don’t get a full time job right a way the pay and experience is good enough to keep you motivated to find that next job.

International buying
May - August 2019 • Issaquah, WA
What I liked
Costco is one of the greatest companies in the world. I learned all about international trade, did cost analysis, met with vendors, and had lots of professional correspondence.
What I wish was different
Picking up and leaving for a few months was tough, missed my friends, family, and the cost of living near Seattle was expensive. Would’ve like a little more help from the company to get settled in.
Advice
Get out and try everything you can. You never know what you might find you like, and at least you learned something even if you find it’s not something you enjoy.

Associate
April - June 2017 • Wichita, KS
What I liked
The pay was incredible, and the people were great for the most part.
What I wish was different
I wish they had been better about rotating people from outside work to inside work, and vise versa. When it's 90+ outside and I'm doing nothing but pushing carts for my six hour shift, my work quality is going to suffer.
Advice
Costco pays you about 1.5x the rate of most retail/ grocery stores, but expects you to do the work of two or three people. If you can manage that, then it is very good money. If not, it will burn you out.
